do not use an impact tool!

you need a really solid bench vise for starters..a good half inch breaker bar and a top quality perfect fitting socket for the prop tool

I'm stuck on one right now myself...damm thing won't come off and I'm worried about the shaft twist ( seems excessive..so I'm not going to money it till it cheeses off)

while I'm waiting for soem confrmation that the shaft is tougher then it seems..go soak the shaft to prop connection down in some pb blaster.

that's not the only thing you better be hoping for is you follow that asshat advice. You'll strip those splines out with an impact gun, and you're in the "dark territory" of jetski wrenching.

I'd suggest you let your friend screw it up and this way he's obligated to make good on the hundreds of bucks it will cost to fix that mess.

No No U need to place the end of the impeller shaft(where the tail cone was) in a strong vise & insert the impeller tool into the impeller & go counter clockwise(normal treads) to loosen it up. The impeller unscrews off the shaft. Remember the engine turns the direction that will draw water into the housing(naturally wanting to tighten it up) To loosen it up, it needs to turn opposite.
