    will a polaris MFD 3280202 8 pin work with a #3280307 12 pin

I have a water logged and corroded MFD #3280307 12 pin. Will a polaris MFD #3280202 8 pin work with some wire splicing? They both have trim.

    Yes, it will work.

No splicing required. Just slide the pins out of the 12-pin Deutsch connector, and insert them into the appropriate locations in an eight pin wire harness connector. You just need to buy or find the correct 8-pin Deutsch connector.

To remove the pins from the Deutsch connector, first you must remove the orange 'locking tab cover' that fits into the face of the connector. Wiggle the face piece and internal locking tab out, then you can look into the connector shell and see the small plastic tabs that hold each pin in place. Use a small screwdriver to gently flex each tab, and slide the pin+wire out the BACK of the connector.

    Multi-Function Display (MFD)

8-pin MFD receives Deutsch DT06-08S connector from the wire harness

12-pin MFD/MFI/NGI all receive a Deutsch DT06-12S connector from the harness

12-pin MFD (not MFI or NGI)
12-pin MFD was only used in the 1999-2000 Pro 785 and SLX models

Note: There are several different wiring configurations for the Polaris 12-pin MFD/MFI/NGI displays.
All 8-pin MFD use the same pin connections, but the Pro and SLX MFD respond more quickly to the 'double speed' Trim motor motions.

An 8-pin MFD should power up when pins 1 (Power) and 2 (Ground) are first connected to a battery. If power and ground connections are reversed, then it will not work.

Pin numbers are embossed in very small size on the rear edge of the _wire harness_ connector.

When looking at the rear of the 8-pin MFD, pin 1 (power) is in the lower right corner. Pin-8 is the upper right corner.

For a 12-pin MFD (looking at the rear of the MFD) the power is still pin-1 (lower right corner), but the ground is on pin 12 (upper right corner).
