    X-45 need updated ignition??

    Have a friends X-45 and it doesn't spark - except for once when you hit the start button, and once when you let off. Haven't checked the stator or coils yet but wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem.

    Oh - it looks like it has a programmable cdi since it has a 9 pin com port type connector on it.

    First thing, check the battery voltage while cranking.

    Battery must deliver more than 10.6 volts while cranking, or you will not have spark.

    Tip: One symptom of low battery voltage is to see spark just as you release the start button.

    Anyone know the stator ohm readings? I have them from an '02 1200 but not sure if they are the same as this '99. cdi has that 9 pin port on it too... not sure where I could find a replacement.

    X2 on the battery voltage

    Also go ahead and do the red/purple CDI to orange terminal update while you have the box open.

    All 1200 engines have the Gen III ignition so there is no 'update' since they already have the newer generation.

    Stator and ignition coil tests can be found here;

    How to test CDI, Magneto stator coils & Hall Effect sensors on domestic engines

    Don't change the CDI Red/Purple wire until AFTER you get the engine going. That update is mainly about engine restarts anyways, not a cold no-spark condition.

    Check that the voltage right at the CDI's Red/Purple wire is more than 10.6 volts while cranking. Do this first.
