    Unhappy 95 Polaris 750 SL 6200rpm idle!

I just replaced the oem carb rack with a better condition oem set. I turned it on and the idle was at 6200rpms! Im assuming I need to adjust the screws but can anyone point me to a source that provides a step by step process on doing this? I've never adjusted a carb before...........

First make sure your throttle cable isn't hanging up.

Then make sure the idle adj screw isn't holding the throttle plates open.

Basically make sure the throttle plates are fully closed.

I'll check the idle adjust screw tommorow. One thing that I didnt mention is that while I switched carbs I removed the intake manifold to take a look at the reeds, which were fine. However I reused ALL the old gaskets. Is that where I f***ed up and allowed an air leak as you mentioned on this thread?-----http://www.greenhulk.net/forums/showthread.php?t=124311

its definitely air getting by..........you just need to know how.

with your flame arrestor off and looking down the carb, if your throttle butterfly's are open then you need to find out why like xlint said.

if your throttle butterflies are not open and you still have a 6200 rpm idle then air is getting by something for sure. air leaks cause high idle, that or it's almost out of gas.............

You were right about the throttle plates. The cen and pto carbs were fully closed. But the mag carb was slightly opened. I adjusted the idle screw which didnt have any effect on closing it up. That throttle plate appears to be stuck partially open. When I started the ski up I pushed down on that throttle plate to close it and rpm DROPPED to 2500 rpms which as I understand is normal idle out of water. What can I do to correct this? Thanks.

    Synchronize your carbs.

if you mashed the butterfly's closed and you still have 2500 rpm then you definately have an air leak. 2500rpm is too high.
