Probably the worst air in California is in that area. Not as expensive as Los Angeles.

    ?????

California is not like other parts of the country where you have lakes and rivers all over the place.

Here in SoCal it's basically a desert. Where we have water it's imported from other parts of the state or other states.

If you lived in San Bernadino county (encompasses the areas you mentioned) the riding choices you have are,

    1. Perris Lake, small puddle (basic round shape, no fingers) of a lake & not very healthy water
    2. Lake Elsinore, larger puddle of a lake and also not very healthy
    3. Big Bear lake, even larger puddle, high altitude, clean water
    4. The Colorado river at the border of CA & AZ. clean water but it can be quite shallow in areas while much deeper in others.
    5. The Ocean

The better choices (IMO) are 3-5 which are probably a 2+hr drive on average.

Overall the area is growing fast and the prices are less than closer to the coast (why it's growing). The air quality frequenty is not very good as the off shore breeze blows the crap back into towards the San Bernadino Mtn range where it sits in a pocket of sorts. When the wind blows off the desert towards the Ocean it's clear.

An area I'd consider is Temecula which is pretty nice and quite a few companies are moving into that area. It's also closer to San Diego (good Ocean riding & night life, plus the other attractions).

I'm sure others can give more details.

San Diego, especially eastern San Diego is quite close to Glamis. I-8 takes you straight there.
