Talking 2001 Polaris Virage Help Please :-)

Hello everyone. I am new to the forums and actually new to the jet ski world. I just bought a 2001 Polaris Virage with a trailer for $700. The ski is in great condition. Here are the problems. First off what should the compression be for the cylinders? I have already taken apart the motor because the top end needed to be rebuilt. The #1 cylinder piston was burn up and the rings were broke up and shot. Anyway just wanted to know what the compression needs to be. Before the tear down I was getting around 5 on the #1 cylinder and 120 on cylinder #2.

I also need to replace the shaft seal on the drive shaft. It is leaking. Since I have the motor pulled apart I was gonna go ahead and do that. What is the easiest way to remove the shaft to replace the bearing and seal?

The gauge cluster didnt power on when I fired it up. Anyone have any input as to what I should check?

    Thanks everyone

compression for cylinder should be 120 - 150.

    Welcome

To remove the drive shaft, first remove the jet pump.

Well I am gonna order a total rebuild kit to redo both the cylinders while its apart. Where is the best place to order a new top end at? Also if I unbolt the motor mounts can I slide the motor forward to remove the shaft?

Remove the jet pump. It is not difficult, and it is the proper method.

    Remove jet pump
    Remove drive shaft
    Remove engine

    In that order.

    Carburetor or fuel injected engine?

Carb'ed engine has a 1/4 Amp fuse inside the electrical box.

Only replace with another 1/4 Amp fuse.

I would have someone take a look at the crankshaft, There are lots of pieces that go from the piston through the bottom end so check this close. Also The problen can be caused by the lower end bearing coming apart .
