would it be wise to take some 1/4" thick board and put it between the hull and the jack to disperse the weight evenly?

i suppose you could but I promise you there is no damage to the hull, I have done this twice, no spider cracks, nothing

I know this is a two year old thread, but I was in the process of trying to remove the second waterbox last night. Got my jack in there but then I stopped because I don't know how much I can open up the hull. It wasn't close to being enough to slip out the box before I stopped. I was following the placement that RIVA shows in there pictures and today I noticed that there was quite a bit of jack exposed than was on mine, but I am using the jack outta my F350, so maybe its bigger. How can you tell if you are stretching the hull too much and get cracks?

Its not worth removing, even if you modify the primary box, I have a secondary box that I opened up to see whats inside, it has 2-1 3/4 passages vs the primary having only one 1 3/4. All you will gain is noise, if you are doing the primary mod, test is with the second in place. I will soon be doing this to my 15f, should have had this done by now, but an injury slowed me down for a couple weeks. According to many on this site you can stretch the hull enough to remove the box without cracking the hull, I would research it a little more if you really want it out, to make sure you don't damage anything.
