    Ultra 150 carb choke plates

My choke plates have rusted away. I don't have any spares but have some off a 900 stx. They are smaller in diameter and have a bigger hole. I need to replace 2 of them. Anyone think i will have a problem since these carbs are kind of touchy? If so where can I find stock choke plates? Looks like I have to get them used. Thanks.

    choke plates

I've seen people run the carbs with the choke plates removed and be fine but I would have to rejet the carbs to compensate for it being leaner. I personally wouldnt run the carbs that way but I know alot do.

How on earth did your choke plates rust away???

Don't run an Ultra without choke plates, you won't be able to get it rich enough.

I have no idea. The thru hull let go about 6 years ago and let water in. I fixed it and no problems since. I go thru the carbs every year (just because I can do it) and I'm shocked when I see the choke plates. This is the second one I replaced now. The ski looks extremely good. I flush and rinse down the motor after every ride and it is covered all the time with the seat cracked open to let the air flow. The ski stumbles for 10-12 seconds then all of the sudden it takes off and runs great for 15 seconds, then loses power. Does this a few times then shuts down. Would not start up again like a weak battery. Towed it in and after a few tries it started up on the trailer and sounded great. Compression is good in all 3 cylinders and plugs look good. I had some 900 carb choke plates and put the second one on now but I don't believe there is any relationship to my problem. Wondering if it's electrical now. Maybe TPS but i never remove it when i do the carbs. Any thoughts are welcomed. Thanks.

You don't have an exhaust leak filling the hull with fumes, do you? Try riding with the seat removed and see if you see anything funny going on. Check the battery connections and ground connection on the block.

Sounds like you need to fabricate some choke plates from stainless or brass. I guess the salty air in Florida is taking it's toll.
