Compression issue - 93 SPI
Just picked upa 1993 SPI 587. Previous owner said he just put new pistons and rings in it. Checked compression when I got home and each side is 60 psi. What would cause such low compression if the pistons and rings are new?
Or do you think he lied?

it could be one of four things.
1. weak starter/battery
2. the gauge (make sure you are using the screw in type)
3. he didn't put the rubber orings in around each bore
4. he lied and sold you a blown up ski
i personally think its #2. since both #'s are even, and giving the seller the benifit of doudt (which you should never do), it points at the gauge being off. its kinda hard to beleive its off by almost 100psi unless your using the press against the hole type.
