    XPL Update

    Hello guys,

Well here is an update on my XPL finaly got in the riva rear exhaust looks good, i have added the R&D ride plate to give me better handling. The ski is still very messy from drilling the hole in the fibre glass, and i have not cleaned the silicone up yet lol.
Last step i am waiting for is the exhaust hose i will be getting in, should be in next week.

    Enjoy

I havent taken the ski out due to i havent gotten the exhaust hose in yet, but i know that i will lose speed with the plate but im not fussed, i just want this ski to be loud and handle great, and im going on holidays soon so it will be a while till i can take the ski out, because the only time i can take it out will be on weekends.

Well we took the ski out with the rear exhaust, recently fitted.

I warmed it up for a couple of minuts, and i thought i would gun it, and the prop span like crazy it would just hit the limiter and the ski would go no were. Then all of a sudden the ski wouldnt idle and i had to limp it back to the ramp. Took it back home and did a commpression test and the front cylinder is gone it was showing 20 psi, the rear cylinder was on its way out only showing 120psi.

Any thoughts guys because i am shocked and dont know what was the problem of why it went. It starts but i cant idle you have to really hit the gas to try and start it.

my first thought is it leaned out, you might had a clogged fuel filter since the front cylinder MAG always receives most fuel, this filter is the first one to clog.

running a high compression head did not help any neither, the higher the compression the less the pistons last, I would suggest you rebuild your top end and dont run the ski anymore, not even on the trailer, or else it will throw a rod.

I have a new spare piston which I believe is .25 or .50 let me know, and I'l send it your way.

it could only be 2 things that caused it.(if no water got in the engine)

    lean condition.
oil supply failed. (oil lines are cracked.oil pump is shot, oil filter/lines are clogged)

but i'm leaning towards the lean.

also turning a bigger prop puts lots of strain into an engine. for an xpl the prop should stay stock & the grate, the prop must be pitched one degree out.

remove the head, and take some pics of the top of the pistons, one by one, and please dont wipe the piston or try to clean it, because it will distort the pistonwash.

When was the comp last tested?
As for warming it up did you just idle around the gun it or warming it up at mid rpm?

Did you remove the exhaust of the manifold of just mess with the rear end? If so im guessing you didnt get the seal right and it ingested water.

Its pretty hard to tell without shots of the domes, pistons and cylinders...

Chris, I know where you're going but one thing I have to point out is that there is no such thing a a cold seize. Glen at PPG did a write up on the misused 2 stroke terms. The temp inside that combustion chamber is real hot, so unless he is using Wiseco pistons, these are known for cold seizing.

if TDR disassembled his exhaust pipe and did not tightened the bolts on the flange water could have leaked in the carbs, specially if he doesnt have the black plastic diaper that goes around that flange. Its made to divert the water away from the carbs in case of a leak.

also Chris did you get that part yet bro?

    Thanks for the tips

I will check the fuel filter and the lines on the ski are the grey tempo lines, i will take the top of the head off to check the pistons, and i warmed it up from idle to about 3000 rpms. The comp was tested about a month ago it was 155psi in both cylinders

come on man, reading this just pisses on my cheerios.

you spent all this money on all the mods but never replaced the fuel lines?!
thats the problem there, it leaned out.

there is no point of checking your fuel filter, just replace the fuel lines,
clean the carbs and rebuild them

also I bet the fuel selector is gunked up.

I worked on many 2 smokes and this is the main problem, the fuel lines.
