need opinion on blackmagic header with custom box

    hey guys,
i have a black majic header and i am making a new waterbox. currently i have a stock shortened and gutted waterbox and what i am thinking about doing is coming off the header with a street 90 degree bend straight into the waterbox. this is a really short run into the box so i was going to get an aluminum vband and just weld the 90 and the vband right on the box. as for a water trap i have that in the back of the box looping around and then shooting to the thru hull fitting. does this short run off the header need to be jacketed? i will try to get some pics of what i am thinking in the mean time.

this isnt the actual pipe im going to use, im going to get one of those thick bends like you would weld on the end of a turbo compressor.

also, i this is not necessary to jacket how should i control the water flow out of the manifold, would i use a little ball valve as a regulator and tweak it as needed?

    pics of progress....edited

You have pretty much answered your own question.

I would put a fitting in that alloy that injects water around the pipe and into the box and just have a flow control valve on it if needed.

Your going to have a good distance from wI water box to thru hull.
I would worry how hot and if would be an issue without that midpipe being jacketed.

Get water injected, or jacketed, on that turndown, otherwise it will burn through quick...

ok, i am thinking about doing this, but making it out of aluminum and weld it straight to the box. my question is how big should i make the holes so the water can flow into the box. i am assuming i should make them bigger or more of them than the stock one, then put a flow control on that line. reason being is that once i weld it together i can not drill the holes bigger or more of them for more water to flow out. Does anyone see any problem with using aluminum like this? the SS bend pictured would be nice but its a pain in the ass to go to SS to aluminum, maybe i will make another box in SS...

I would say that if you want to use ally for that mid pipe it needs to be jacketed, I think you would burn thru it as the exhasut gasses are going straight at the side of that bend out of the mani.

I dont like the idea of water injection there as there is some risk of water running back to the cyliders if the engine is switched off with the nose down.

The pic of the stainless down turn jaketed is a a good solution. although a little more work. R88
