Take the plug out and put your thumb over the hole and hit the starter. if your thumb jumps off, you have compression, if not, you burned a hole thru a piston..

If you did do that, the ski would run only 20-40 mph not 50 like it use too. These ski are old(15) and need maintenance like upgrading fuel lines, clamps, fuel pump, polaris updates for your skis.. read read read in the tech section and learn about what you now own, spens a 200.00 on each ski to update them. dont ever fix anything and go back out on the water without finding the cause of the problem or else it will happen again..

your right, I'm a big guy, 6'3" 270 and it run across the water in the high 30's , wife is tiny and it would still reach mid 40's. plenty fast for playing in the lake. the need for speed falls on the shoulders of the 01 gsxr and 97 ninja..lol

have pulled the plugs and tested by roll over, everything works and runs fine (seemingly) just has no power out of the hole, how do I know if the impeler should be replaced?

get a compression gauge.. and check it.

you need to go threw your fuel system and replace the lines.. and clean carbs.. the sl650 should do about 45 ish

Welcome,Take a look thru your grate on the bottom and see if you picked up something, You need to pick up a compression gauge and get a reading, you can smoke a cylinder and still have low compression. Also don't over look the spark plugs, they can and will foul out sometimes. Are they oily,or a dry brown color. Check the link K447 posted and you'll be on the right road to fun again.
