    Question 1997 Kawasaki 1100 STX - Newbie.

    So I recently bought a 1997 Kawasaki 1100STX. It was in awesome shape, and had 98 hours on it, which seemed great for the year. They kept it in a garage so it was in almost pristine condition. He was asking for $2400, but I got it for $2000.

    I have a few questions: I am a complete noob when it comes to jet skis and know absolutely nothing about them. Additionally, I'm not mechanically inclined (but most of my family is).

    It runs like a charm, however, and I haven't experienced any problems. The speedometer usually gets to about 52 or 53, it has hit 54 a few times. However, about once a trip (and I've had it three days and taken it out all three days) it will kind of sputter for about 5 or 6 seconds usually after I've ridden it some distance and had it off for a minute or two. This has only happened twice, and they were very minor. Do you know what this could be?

    Also, is there anything I need to make sure I keep an eye on with this type of model? How often do the plugs need to be changed, and what should be signs I need to look for to know when something needs to be fixed, other than it completely blowing up or sinking?

    kawis are cold natured skis,always warm them up an try changing the plugs,they are cheap.

    Welcome aboard, Sam!

    One thing you really want to do is replace/upgrade the oil lines. They can get brittle with age and crack, resulting in loss of oil and engine seizure. This is not a difficult thing to do, and not very expensive, but it could save you a bunch of money in the future.
