    Assembly Questions

As I begin to assemble my GP1200 I have decided to create a thread discussing any problems or questions I may have along the way.

    1. What loctite do you use on the bolts? Is there a specific number?

head bolts, case bolts, and cyl bolts use loctite 572 or yamahabond.

I use 1211 top seal cases and put it on the basgasket. Just a smear to make the gaskets look wet.

All other bolts 242 or blue loctite meduim strength.

Flywheel bolt I use red loctite high strength.

Adam call me if you need anything.

Thanks Kris, I always appreciate the help. I'm about to order the stuff from McMaster-Carr and wanted to get the right stuff.

Can someone please take a photo of where to connect the fuel lines. Its a pretty basic task, yes, but the manual does not do a great job of showing where to connect. If someone could snap a picture of their gas tank to fuel selector and carbs that would be much appreciated.

Still looking for a picture of this. I just want to make sure I don't screw up my on/res/out lines and such.

    Thanks,

    Adam

    A BIG welcome.
I did forget the carbs line part, but glad it helped either way!

Alright engine compression is in check 125,125,126. I also pressure tested and it held 10 PSI for 30 minutes, probably would've still held but I cut the test short. I'm excited to get her running, hopefully by Friday. All of my gaskets are ordered and now I'm just waiting on Dave to deliver some fuel line. A big thanks to MR1 X2 and Scott for rushing those gaskets to me! I am continually amazed, and humbled by the selflessness of these old school members.

    Questions:

    1. Can I install with the carbs on?
    2. I'm uncertain with the alignment of the engine. What tool, if any, is used for positioning the couplers or is it merely visual?
    3. What electrical components do you hook up with the engine during install? Obviously the stator, but what other wires should I connect during the drop in?

    1. Can I install with the carbs on?

    Yes carbs on ehhaust off.

    2. I'm uncertain with the alignment of the engine. What tool, if any, is used for positioning the couplers or is it merely visual?

Find a short straight edge and use it as a tool to line up the coupler.
Use your fingers and feel top bottom left and right of the coupler's and you can feel which way you need to move the motor to align them

    3. What electrical components do you hook up with the engine during install? Obviously the stator, but what other wires should I connect during the drop in?
Motor in then front cover then starter and starter cable before you put the exhaust on.
