    GP1200 pre-mix... is there a debate thread?

Was in my local Yammie dealer today and he tried to sway me out of Yamalube 2W for premix use and to buy this other stuff that was $22 a quart! Reasoning is such that the Yamalube 2W will sink to the bottom of the tank and not mix with the gas. I've never heard of such a thing, plus even if it does settle, it's got to mix up when I tow to the ramp, right?

I said I'm going to do some research first.

I'm sure it's been discussed at nauseum here on GH. I can't find a definitive thread; so I turn to the masses to see if you can point me in right direction.

I put 10 gallons put fresh 93 Octane (with 10% ethanol ) in the tank with 2 quarts of Yamalube 2W for my first time out (40:1). It seemed to run fine and did not bog or choke.

    Thanks in advance; much appreciated.

I am sure you tried to search for it, prior to posting this right?

Yes, but most of what I found was debate on ratio and not brand. I also found mostly brand loyal posts on AMSOIL, but nothing really explained why one is better than the other in a 2-stroke enviroment.

I know the ways of VBulletin. I've am a mod on offshoreonly.com and member on quite a few sites.

    Thanks everyone.

I guess I am just getting old then, seems like there are about twenty threads over the years touting the different oils. when I searched I found several maybe you should search the entire Yamaha section and not just the old school section. more posts in the two stroke performance section.

I am trying to find out how you called a 40:1 ratio. Ten gallons of gas is 40 quarts, and with two quarts of oil added, my brain want to say this is a 20:1 ratio.

You are correct, 10 gallons of gas needs one quart of oil to make it 40:1. I normally mix in 5gal containers and use 16oz of oil per container.
