Thread: Mahi Mania!

I was not on pwc but I thought I would share my trip from yesterday.
I got a call from my neighbor Barclay for a good weather window in Hatteras on friday. He has been keeping his 28 True World Marine at Hatteras Landing for over a month and fishing whenever he gets a chance.
We departed Hatteras inlet at 0500 hrs, the crew was myself, Barclay and Sonny of Poquoson and Robert of Hampton Virginia. We went south between the 70 and 100 fathom line where we found a good temperature break of about 77 degrees and a decent weed line. After about two hours of trolling we had two gaffer dolphin and a couple of short bites on the that looked like a possble small White Marlin when it hit. Then as we are trolling, Sonny spotted a bunch of dolphin breaking up ahead. We get there and are surrounded by Mahi. It is a fishermans dream and we spend the next two hours non stop catching them. Sonny kept them at the boat by constantly switching up the baits and chunking with peanut bunker, squid, cut up spot and croaker. I am sure we caught over 60 and kept our limit of 40 fish.
We left the Dolphin bitting and headed to a couple of spots to bottom fish. A couple of drops produced some Amberjack, small snapper and a nice 6lb Trigger citation for Robert. The wind picked up quite a bit and the cooler was almost full so headed back and were in the slip by 1700hrs. The True World 28 did great covering 130 miles and only burning 60 gallons of diesel. We all had a great time and I know what I will be grilling tonight. Here are some pictures from our day.

Thanks for the reply. I had a great dinner on Saturday and sealed up some for friends, family and freezer. Can't wait to do it again.
