    GP1200 Max rpm

'98 GP1200. Just did a carb rebuild. Also have aftermarket FAs, primer kit, premix, XO impeller, R/D grate...the usual tricks. What top rpm should I be looking for? Right now I'm between 6900 and 7000 (according to the dash tach). I feel like I was closer to 7100 or 7200 before the rebuild. I tweaked the highs both richer and leaner and neither effected the rpms too much. I also have a Riva cdi on the way and I have an external tach that I still have to hook up.

Should turn about 7100-7150 rpm but that can drop 100 or more rpm because of weather.
Having your carbs richer also could be contributing.
Impeller could also have got dinged etc.
Also cant go off the stock tac.

Yeah I'm not gonna get too worked up over it until I put on the external tach. I'm also gonna lean out my highs a little more. I only did it 1/8 of a turn yesterday with no real change (again using the dash tach). My top speed is a few mph slower than before the rebuild, but I also didn't have on the aftermarket grate, which I know can slow you down a little with the exposed scoop. But then again, after market FAs, impeller, removing choke plates should add a little speed.

    Hey there brhrmmin...

I think using the reading from the factory dash mounted tach is a complete waste of time..!

These ski's have a rev limiter at or near 7,050rpm..!
Peak power output is made at about 6,750rpm on a stock motor..?!

Without having adding any porting or raised compression..??
I would think you RPM's will be lower anyway due to the XO impeller..??

I've seen around 6900-6950rpms when my ski was bog standard on a very good day..

Once you get that tach fitted..
Tunning will be Sooooo much more acurate..

Get a tach and a GPS so you can make informed decisions stock ones are worthless.

Thanks for the input guys. Any suggestions where to get a GPS from?
I'm gonna throw the tach on as soon as my buddy gets done with it. He dropped a new engine and carb in his stand-up and is having a b**** of a time with it. Like I said, my ski doesn't feel bad, but it's not quite there yet.
