98 SLxH slow throttle response from half throttle to wot

Hey guys hopefully you can give me a little guidance. I have a 98 slxh that seems to have great throttle response from idle to half throttle then at half to wot it will be sluggish at times. I will have the throttle lever wot and will only be doing about half throttle then all the sudden it will open up and go wot. I replace the fuel lines being the old ones were tempo but it had this problem before the line replacement. Any suggestions?

Have the carbs been opened up and cleaned/rebuilt internally?

As far as I know they have not. I have not opened them or taken them in for service and I have owned the ski for four to five years now. It does have the accelerator pump on the carbs as well.

Well, here is the standard recipe.

Replace all the fuel lines. You have done this already, which is good.

    Replace the fuel filter.

Check the oil lines while you in there. Replace any that look suspect. Replace the oil filter.

Clean and check the fuel selector valve - must not have air leaks under suction. You may need to take it apart and rebuild it - new o-ring, lightly greased.

Remove, dis-assemble, clean and rebuild the carburetors. Use only genuine Mikuni rebuild kits.

Check carburetor pop-off pressure, adjust as needed to bring to specification.

Set carb adjustments to factory spec.

While you have the carbs removed would be a good time to remove the intake manifold and inspect the reed valves.

Re-install carbs, make sure gaskets are in good condition.

Install fresh spark plugs, of the correct part number.

    Test ride.

Ok ill start in that order. I have already done the oil filter and fuel filters for my preseason checklist. Just a question, how would the oil filter cause the condition? Should I fix the accelerator pump as well? Oh and where is a good place to get carb. Kits?

It would not. I put in in the list as a reminder along with the fuel lines and filter. Sometimes folks forget that the oil lines need to be maintained too.

    Of course
Rebuild the entire carburetor, including the fuel pump.

John Zigler, or any of the other shops that support the forum.

Ok that sounds good. A couple more things, I noticed that the accelerator pump kit is not available does that come with the carb kit? If not where do I get one? Also my manual says to.sync the carbs with a monometer is that the only way? A good place to get one? Thank-you so much for your help. One more thing how would it act if the gasket under the carb was bad?

One more thing I forgot, Not a big deal but the check valve for the vent on my fuel tank is bad. Can I use one from an auto parts store or should I buy the genuine polaris one? Thank You again for your help.
