Riva FZR grate exploded!
My Riva grate broke this weekend while Jim Walker (OU812) was going full speed on my FZR. He flew over the handlebars and cart wheeled several times. Luckily he only suffered a stiff neck and minor bruising on his leg. My ski is stock with the exception of an air intake kit and exhaust free flow. He did not hit anything! Thank God he was not going 80+!
This is all that's left!
Has anyone had similar problems with the Riva grate?

The riva grate is known to break. I wonder if R&D will come out with a SS grate like riva is.....

Known to break? It not like I have seen a lot of post on FZ grates breaking. A handful on here doesn't really indicate the worlds experience. ICBW though
Also, WTF are SHO owners going to get stainless? It's not like there are none out there or there is no market for a SS grate... Looks like the only reason SHO owners get anything now days is just because it happens to bleed over from the FZ.
Glad OU812 is Okay..

first off send my regards to jim walker, he is a stand up guy. i am glad he is ok. and if he would of been going 75+ or 80 it would of been really ugly. i am sure it was bad enough going thru that at 70+.
i own a SHO. And i have the r&d grate. if there was reports of the grate that i have breaking i would replace it asap. that is a risk that is not worth taking especially when i am doing 79/80+ mph.

It looks like it broke at the front section first and then bent and snapped the rear section off. The front section is a single bar which could be a weak point! Luckily there is no damage to the impeller or pump. Needless to say I will not be using another Riva grate!
