    96 xp question ??????????

    We were out riding tonight and my brothers 96 xp was running good and then it was like driving a car with the clutch slipping the throttle response was there but not really happening it would slowly pick up speed but like i said it was like it was slipping? Any thoughts...thanks in advance for all your help you guys are great. Oh yeah it is now also making a squealing sound?

    your wear ring is shot...look in the back of the pump but shine a flash light up the intake. if there is a lot of light you need to pull the pump and replace it. as for the squealing I think that your bearings in the pump may be shot and need replaced also

    Have you even checked the pump yet? or dropped the nose cone behind the steering nozzle?

    Carbon Ring

    Check the carbon ring on the pump shaft also. It is the black washer looking thing that is up against the accordion boot on your driveshaft inside your hull. That is, if it still has one.

    if he would have lost that carbon seal he would have taken on water...he didnt mention that he did. it also wouldnt create the symptoms that he is describing

    I have had a couple of times for the ring to suck air and not take on a significant amount of water. Just trying to cover all of the bases . It is hard to determine what is wrong with someones ski unless you were there to know what went on exactly. Cover all of the possible faults with the symptoms of the description.

    i have not tore it down yet but yes there was a good amount of water in the hull i forgot until u mentioned it sry
