    99 XL1200 LIMITED Q's

I bought 2 XLL's and one spun the drive-shaft after two hours out. I have it apart and was looking at what all I should do while out. I will post some pics to go with this post. First the person said he sealed the pump which I found out was not what I thought it was just putting caulk in the grooves in front I of the impeller I thought he had put new seals in the pump do I need to remove and put something better in. The next this is the impeller looks like it has some cavitation burns and metal missing do I need to replace the impeller? I am buying a pump rebuild kit as well. Last the wear ring has 50-60 hours is had has groves do I need to replace it. If I next Q's need to be in performance just let me know. What impeller for best performance and what wear ring?

Here's a good article about installing a pump plug kit.

As far as performance, I started a performance thread for the XL Limited/XLT a few years back; probably needs updating, so anyone who has 2 cents to toss in feel free to add to the info pool.

your impeller looks to be in rough shape. A lot of burn. It also looks like too much clearance between the impeller and wear ring, I can't tell if it's the impeller, ring, or both from the pics.

Also, that pump was sealed, but your picture cuts off at the back of the pump shoe where it almost looks like it wasn't fully finished.

And what exactly do you mean your spun your driveshaft, were you cavitating badly or did you loose all power to the pump?

With the 1st post I now know what he did when he said a seal kit was installed. The sealant in the groves was not put in clean so it was coming off and being eaten by the impeller. The splines on the shaft are corroded and where they go into the coupler have spun all the edges off the splines so I will order new shaft and coupler. The wear ring is grooved from the impellers edge. Here are some more pics. what pitch do I need. Is it a 13/19 solas. and what brand of wear ring? Thanks for the help first ski's steep learning curve.
