    Supercharger Check

What's the best way to determine that a 2008 215 SCIC has not blown a ceramic washer before buying a used PWC from a private seller both with and without the ability to test drive (assuming the seller either doesn't know or disclose this info)?

    Welcome to the Hulk.

2008 have metal washers from the factory. The easiest way to check is to feel the outlet hose while revving it up it should swell as you rev it. You can also remove the intake hose and try to spin the impeller by hand it should not spin.

The 08's came with metal washers. But you should be able to hear the distinct "whizzing" sound of the charger wheel if you throttle up the ski on the trailer.

How many hours on the ski? I'm asking because - you will have to do a complete rebuild on the supercharger every 100 hours to avoid other types of problems - such as bearing failure, loss of spring washer tension, metal clutch washer slippage and wear.

    Actually I'm looking at a 2007 and a 2008. The '07 has only 48 hours, the '08 has 58.

Thank you for the great information.

Scers that are 2008 and up do not have ceramic washers..If you think the Scer is slipping you just may need to reset the slip...

There is a possiblilty that the supercharger clutch washers have already failed on the '07 - which means there may be ceramic junk in the motor destroying the oil pumps and it may have a damaged timing chain. The washers may have disintegrated and the owner could have rebuilt the charger without cleaning out the motor - so you wouldn't know it even happened. My ceramic washers failed at 65 hours - but they fail on most skis sooner. If you can hear the "whizzing" of the charger on the '07 and strongly believe that it hasn't had a supercharger clutch washer failure (and you decide to purchase it) ... rebuild the supercharger BEFORE you ride it. It might not be a bad idea to check the oil filter pleats for ceramic debris before you purchase it....

If you get the '08 have the supercharger rebuilt no later than 100 hours on the clock.
