    2007 yamaha vx overheating ?

2007 vx cruiser check engine goes off after 5 minutes of riding with the temp light on. Hot water flowes very freely out the pisser and I blew the water lines as it ran with a compresser. I am very careful not to suck up sand ,33 hours and cleaned very thourghly after each use . Wont overheat at an idle. Also when I did a self check the code was 01 ? Any sugestions?

Worth taking the thermostat out & rinsing.......sand can sometimes find it's way in there & stop it working correctly.
