    valve clearance/adjustment check

    anyone actually know the correct way to do this? I did a search but didn't find much.

    how difficult is the task?

    if you have no idea on motors i suggest you dont go there

    This like most coments from Nicjak I agree with. You leave it to a good Kawi mechanic. I hear different things from different dealers. Only one of them can be right. I think they set them conservatively in the factory don't they?

    The job takes a few hours to do. Remove the valve cover. First you measure the clearance at the proper crankshaft/camshaft location (TDC 1&4), then record the values.Rotate the crankshaft 360 and do the same on the remaining valves. If they fall in spec put the valve cover back on and ride. If not you remove the camshafts and select the correct valve shims to bring the thing into specification. Finally the camshafts get reinstalled and timed properly to the crankshaft postion.

    If you haven't done the job before on any 4 cylinder engine go to someone who is competent-that may be someone other than the dealer Maybe get a manual and study up?
