    loose impeller boot?

I understand that the pump rattles or chatters when out of the water on the flush hose and I do not hear any rattle when in the water. Today I was changing my intake grate out and noticed that the impeller boot slides back and forth about a mm or two. I can feel that the oring is in place since the boot does not chatter. I then grabed the drive shaft and can move it up and down slightly and cause the same chatter you hear when on the flush hose. IS THIS NORMAL.

Thanks in advance, this form has realy helped me get my ski in shape.

Not sure about the drive shaft, but I dont think its should move around when everything is in place. The nose cone needs to be loctited on, if you cant get it to stay put remove it, because it will walk up the drive shaft and take out the carbon seal.

    Thanks for the quick reply,
The boot can only move about a mm or two, the drive shaft is groved so the boot can not walk up the shaft.

If the boot is loose, it will eventually walk up the shaft. I have had it happen.

The boot can and will walk all the way up the driveshaft into your carbon seal if you dont torque it down and use loctite in the threads...Trust me this has happened to many many members on this forum...IF you dont want to loctite it down the remove it completely..It will not harm anything especially seeing your a fresh water rider..

This may be a dumb question but how do you locktite the boot in. There is an oring that looks like it should hold it in. Should the boot totaly fill the gap and cover the splines between the impeller and the ridge on the shaft?

The Solas nose cone has some flat spots on the end that screws into the impeller. Just use red loctite on the threads and use a cresent wrench on the flat spots to tighten it down. Also I would let the loctite sit for at least a day before running the ski.

Yes the cone should completely cover the splines.

As far as the o-ring goes, all kinds of fun stuff happens to things at 8000+ rpm

Thanks for the help, I took the pump out and looked it over cosely. The nose cone does not have any flat spots I even put a gauge on it, when you push it into the empeller it clicks and turns round. I tried turning it in both directions but there is no grab no matter how hard I push
Thank for helping not sure what I am doing wrong.

If it does not want to tighten down, then like Snoman said just leave it off, it wont hurt nothing.
