    starting problems 95 xp

New battery but when starting it will not fire. However volts are ok. When I jump the battery it will fire but as soon as the jumper cables come off it dies. Is this a classic case of a bad rectifier (spelling)?

what do you mean by jumping it? to a vehical? from battery to motor? just jumping the solenoid?

it sounds as hough you have a bad ground. check the main ground cable under the motor. it usually corriodes under the rubber and near the connectors. quick test is hook a jumper cable from the negitive on the battery to somewhere on the motor. if it fries thats your problem.
