Sounds like a bad valve. Have to get a refrigeration guy because of the gases used. No way to replace the valve without loosing the gas. We are all the time having to replace them in ice machines. It allows the refrigerant to flow the opposite direction and defrost the cooling coils or in our case the cube block. If it is not working correctly the coils will ice up or in our case not heat the block to let the cubes fall out.

On newer fridges, They have a heater unit(this one has a loop like a stove burner)That is suppose to cycle and defrost the condenser. It consist of the heater, bimetallic switch, and a solid state control board. I have a problem with one of the units.my luck the control board $171.00 worth.

    board

work on them for a living.the board is either a mother board with relays or a smaller processor called an adaptive defrost.if the bimetal is cold(glass of ice water 32 degree) you can ohm thru the whole circuit, connection at adp defrost thru the heater thru the bimetal to the neutral on the power cord, longer of the 2 wall slots.if you have continuity thru the circuit bad adp defrost.a standard defrost timer can be substitued in its place.pro much cheaper replacement, con the adp defrost stretches out times between defrosting ie the timer defrost every 12 hours for 30 minutes wether it needs it or not.wastes electricity.adp will stretch out the times according to door openings and how long it needed to defrost before tripping the bimetal.some will go as far out as 120 hours.compressor nowdays draw like 1 amp,the heater draws like 3 amps.over the course of a year it adds up
