    VX110 Rattling Noise

Hi there. I just purchased a stock 2005 VX110 Deluxe with 175 hours. Previous owner said it would just quit sometimes, and suspected an electrical problem. Compression is 180 psi in all four cylinders, and the ski seems to start and run fine in the driveway (I have not had it on the water yet). Oil is clean and level is fine. I got it for a very good price.

I noticed a rattling sound now and then coming from what seems to be the rear of the motor, or possibly the pump housing--hard to tell which. I don't have my shop manual yet, but am suspecting pump bearings??

    Thanks,
    Boudin

So, I probably should have done more searching before posting. Others seem to be accurately describing the noise as coming from the reduction gear in the VX110. It's normal when out of water and not under a load.

I do plan on going through all the electrical connections looking for corrosion. I'll give them a shot with DeoxIT, and then water test the ski.
