Need some opinions on possible dammage. *PICS*

OKay, I figured I would be making a post like this sooner or later so here it goes. Had the ski out 1-2 times a week for the past few months, runs like a champ. Was out today, only got about a mile out and was at about 3/4 throttle and it slowed suddely and died. Tride to start it only once or twice and then had it towed back. No oil/water in hull. All seems to appear fine. After cranking, it "stops" quickly. All three plugs look good. Didi comp test at 90-110-95. Pulled the head, all three cyl look the same. There is a very very slight scoring on #3 but overall they look pretty good but seem to be a little dry IMO. once the head was off I tried to push down the pistons by hand and can not. I would thinkg I should be able to push the down by hand and turn the crank. So, nothing super obvious, I'm thinking maybe something with the oi injection, pump maybe, but would like some opinons and suggestions from the pros. Please let me know if you need pic of anything spacific. Thanks.

Very much sounds like classic lean seizure behavior. Bill's jetting should help significantly over the stock jetting, but at 3/4 throttle there's still a weak signal lean spot. Any other contributing factor, such as an air leak in the fuel selector, a low fuel condition, or a sticky fuel pickup flapper, and you're looking at trouble.

Should my plugs look light grey or white-ish for a lean condition like that? I was only at about 3/4 throttle for a min or two maybe a few , I've been up and down the river longer than that before. All the plugs were a dark brown, dark grey color with no build up. Anything else I can look for to find out if this is a possibility? thanks for the input.

Anytime you shut down while running, it usually indicates a bad problem, but have you looked at the impeller/liner?

I had one in the other day that the customer thought the motor was siezed, but it turned out to be a bad impeller liner (bubbled up so the prop wouldnt turn)

Rich, I checked quickly after I put it on the trailer but I'll slide under there ands check a bit closer. Considering the lower than normal comression and the fact that it feels like there is some resistance when the motor turns over, I'm thinking something in the bottom end is seized or on its way.

Looking at the near complete lack of piston wash there's no doubt in my mind you're running too lean. There's a bit of material transfer on that middle cylinder, but the damage doesn't look bad at all. You should be able to clean that up with some muratic acid, replace the rings/pistons that are damaged, and be good to go - after you fix your lean issue.

Smackwave: Thats sounds great, but I'm still wondering whats causing the motor to feel like there is resistance. It will turn over with the starter, but it feels like its not turning freely enough. Kinda like if you've ever not released your ebrake completely and try to drive away, you'll go, but when you stop giving it gas, you'll stop very quickly instead of coasting. That's kinda how it feels. There are no noises or sounds, no metal, grinding or anything of that sort, just a bit of resistance.

Keep it coming, I'm gonna work on this thing this weekend so the more info the better. Thanks!

wont show much wash with a couple hours of run time

pop them jugs and check for a slight seizure
