Rattle in pump?
Curious why the impeller/pump will often rattle at idle? Seems some do it and others do not. Seems to work fine under power but sounds like it is coming apart at idle.

is this on the trailer or in the water? if its on the trailer this is normal if its in the water it is time to take your pump apart ad inspect the bearings...

The power pulses from the engine twist the crank shaft in bursts. In between power pulses, the impeller bounces off the splines in rotation. The effect is that the engine is pulsing the drive line, and the impeller is ringing in response.
Greasing the splines fills the spaces between the splines, so there is less room for the drive line to rattle, and it is quieter (for a little while).

I had a rattle in the driveline for about a month and then the stub shaft broke in half!
