    1996 slx780 cdi

Hi all, Long time peeper and I decided to join once I had these issues.

Gotta say I love the site and all the usefull info.

Got a CDI issue I believe. I looked throught the factory service manual and did the flow chart check for the rev limit issues and its pointing to the cdi.

It is the Blue Fuji 3 cylinder motor. All stock .

My question is, will a cdi from a SL750 work on mine? I can get one locally used so I can check to see if that problem still exists.

Hoping that I can fix it by this weekend cause its gonna be in the upper 80's low 90's.
    Thanx in advance

    Welcome to the Hulk.

    What rev limit issue?

Is the red light blinking on the MFD?

Are you limited to 4200 RPM?

Thanx for the welcome fellow Clevelander. Well Im in Euclid.

    No red light flashing.

Yes I would imagine its at the 4200 rpm limit. The gauge is showing I believe 6200 rpm but it may be off. We did the fix for the gauge to see the entire gauge and re-calibrated it as well. But it doesnt sound like it is at 6200 rpm rev limit. It definitely sounds like 4200 rpm.

Like I said I did the flow chart even though the gauge was flashing fuel and there was plenty in the tank we filled it. It still showed low fuel so I used a 33 ohm resistor and jumped the 2 wires and then it showed full but when we re calibrated it, it showed that it was correct amount. If we can use a SL750 CDI just to get it running correctly then we will buy the SLX780 CDI. We have access to 2 SL750's for parts locally

I read on PWC Today about a Service Bulletin section over here but I cant find it. They were talking about a CDI update for the SLX780 and I just wanted to read about that. Can you or someone point me in the right direction to that? And why cant I use the search function here? Every time I try to search it says no search results.

    Actually, I'm in Euclid too.

    Where are you launching from?

The 95 SLX 780 update was a small capacitor type device that was to be added to the CDI for easier starts.

Yeah, the search function on here was never that good, but as of recently this site underwent some changes and the search is TERRIBLE now. I can't find stuff I even wrote a while ago.

PM me your phone # and I'll see if I can help you out. I have a SLX CDI that we can try and see if that is the problem.

Yes, you can use a 750 CDI for testing purposes, but it has less timing (24* VS. 28* for a SLX 780) and wouldn't accelerate as hard.
