Anyone ever look at making adapters to put bigger carbs on stock manifold?

Anyone ever explore the possibilty of making some adapters to bolt on top of the stock domestic intake manifold to put bigger mikuni style carbs on it? I was kinda looking at it today and thinking since aftermarket intakes are so hard to come by now days, why couldn't a person just make some adapters to bolt onto the stock manifold that are turned back to straight so you could mount bigger carbs shaft to shaft, with the diphrams toward the outside. It looks like if it is possible, you would probably be able to use the stock choke cable mount off the manifold to hold the throttle cable. Obviously the manifold would need to be bored/ported out for the bigger carbs. Anyone ever try it, or know why it couldn't be done? Just thought i'd ask before i waste my time if it isn't feasable.

There's some discussion about it in my project thread. CrazyA and Jay both have prototypes that should be close to testing. Check out post #125.

wonder how hard it would be to make a side draft intake to run mikunis.theres been discussion that the stock keihin intake is really to long for the domestic as is.

Pretty easy for me. I run a cnc machine for a living. I've thought about that too.

Side draft should give you a better signal at the carbs, but a few have tried and went back to downdraft for one reason or another. CrazyA and MatrixMan did, I believe. Trevor, did you try locating some Hot Seat intakes? I sold some a couple years ago for $150 for the set of 3...they aren't nearly as expensive as the Polaris ones. You will have to run the carbs with linkages, not shaft to shaft...but thats the better way anyway.

I already have one set of hot seat manifolds, but i have two skis that need bigger carbs. The manifolds are pretty hard to come by now and if you find them they're expensive, that's why i thought about making the adaptor plate. Why do you say running a linkage is the better way to do it?
