    yamaha 1200 motor generations

Can someone please educate me on all the yamaha 1200 motor generations? Specifically looking for the various combinations of crankcase + cylinders and years sold if you know it.

    Thanks!

I think up to 1998 they where non power valve and the cylinder was one assembly and I believe (someone correct me if I tell him wrong) that 1999 they started to produce a power valve motor witch has three individual cylinders, power valves etc etc

    There are two 1200 engines:

The first is the non powervalve version which was used from 1997-1999 in the GP1200's, SUV1200, and XL1200. These cylinders came in one block with all three attached with a bore size of 84mm. The engine code for this engine is 65U. However the crankcase AND cylinder were stamped 63M, but the head reads 65U.

The second is the powervalve engine used from 1999-2005 in GPR's, XLT's. These engines had single detachable cylinders. The engine code for this engine is 66V.

The xlt stayed 1200pv and carbed till they stopped making them in 2005 the gpr was 1200pv and carbed till 2003 when the1300pv with fuel injection started then the 2005 to 2008 became non pv 1300 motors with fuel injection.
