    bilge pump fuse keeps popping

My fuse for the 2001 Virage keeps popping. Any suggestions? Also, after changing fuse, my MFI is no longer available!

    Replace the bilge pump.

Only install another Rule pump, which is designed for continuous operation while dry.

The MFD has its own 1/4 Amp fuse. You may have damaged it when you changed to other fuse. Only replace with another 1/4 Amp fuse.

Always disconnect the battery negative before opening the electrical box. This prevents an accidental momentary short from damaging anything while you are working on it.

ok. thanks. I did clean terminals and replaced the fuse and the MFI is working again. It seems when I press the Bilge button on the colum, it does pop the fuse. How do I know if its that or the actual bilge pump and not the button itself.

Unplug the bilge pump. Press button. Fuse does not blow. Replace bilge pump.

thanks for all the advice...Now, should I go with the Rule 500 automatic. My manuel does not get too specific when talking about replacing and the dealer wants a hundred bucks to order me a new one. I have been to several sites and have seen the Rule 500 auto for 75 dollars. What do you think? thank you

No need for the automatic. The pumps run whenever the engine is running.

The 320 (or whatever size it is) only costs around $25-35. I'd get that.....

Use a pair of heat shrinkable/sealable butt-splice crimp-on wire connectors, and simply splice the new pump wires onto the ends of the old pump wires.

Make sure you get the negative pump wire connected correctly to Black

Strip the wire ends, join with the crimp connector, then apply some heat to shrink the connector covering around the wires.

The best crimp connectors are the ones with heat activated sealant inside. A marine shop should have these.
