    06 rxp delamination

Hey guys im new to the site as well as just buying a 06 rxp. I bought it about a month ago with 49 hours for 6,000. I have been out on it 4 times so far and the last time i went out, the bottom got delaminated. i was out in the bay for about 40 minutes and i came in and realzied that the 1st layer of fiberglass along with the clear and paint had come off the whole right side of the ski. just wanted to post some pics and show you guys what happened! Thanks

Man that makes me sick to see that and hope that doesn't happen to me, however i did get a hull for free on craigslist just in case, and if it does i'll put some custom colors on it.But i sure hate it for ya.

I'm guessing it stated with a crack or nick in the gelcoat on the keel and the water pressure tore it apart.

Is that fixable? And what should you do if you have a little nick to prevent this from happening?

Yes, it can be repaired, the hull is solid it's just the gel coat layer that has peeled off from water getting under that damaged spot. A good boat repair shop can refinish it. However simply replacing it with another hull may be a better option. There are a lot of hulls out there, you just need to do a little searching, and factor in the labor cost of re-fitting one.

Prevention starts with regular inspection, especially if you beach your ski on a rocky shore or suspect an impact may have happened. People will often get a small ding or crack below the waterline from rocks or impact, and you really can't ignore that; you have to repair the gel coat or get some one to do it for you. Small repairs are really not expensive, and in some cases this can prevent the large scale damage you see in the photos.

Its not just a layer of gelcoat, a full layer of fiberglass has come off with it also.
