    Impeller

Just curious what impeller would be recommended for a '96 SLX 780 to give her a bit more on the top end.

You can try a Nu Jet 5.0 if it's all stock.

    What mods have you done?

What's the max RPM you're getting?

What type of water do you normally ride?

don't know if you'll get more top end with a different impeller. I never tried a nujet. You can get more low end and acceleration with a impeller swap though

No mods as of yet, just bought machine 3 weeks ago.

Haven't really checked the MFD with it full out....the Lake Huron beach we go to is pretty choppy....AND BUSY! Have to keep an eye ahead (and on a swivel). PWC's and boats all over the place, and no one is on a leisurely cruise....full out all the time.

What type of water do you normally ride?
Big water (Great Lakes), but will be doing some river running and inland lakes.

I'll have a look at the Nu Jet. Yes, it is still all stock.

If you're going to be riding rough water most of the time, don't bother trying to get max speed. You're better off setting the ski up for the most speed the water conditions will allow.

Ususally you sacrifice 1 for the other.

If you want top speed, normally your bottom end will suffer and vice versa.

I'd suggest you set your ski up for what you're NORMALLY going to be riding on. A ski that does 60 MPH on flat water will be a dog in 2-3' waves.

Decide how you want your ski to perform, and we can make suggestions based on that.

hit the set button while the mfd is in rpm mode while riding or even when parked right after you stop before the display goes into sleep mode and it will display your peak speed and the rpm it was at.

For the most part the water will be calm to slight chop and roll. Inland lake at the cottage (can get a bit choppy, but nothing major), and Lake Huron (rolling to light chop). I don't foresee any big wave riding, but who knows. Majority of time will certainly be smooth, light chop, or rolling. What pitch should I be looking for? 14/20?

15/20 Skat trak would be stock. Try the 5.0 Nu Jet and see if you gain a little more top end, but it won't be much if any.

So upgrading the impeller may not be beneficial then? What if coupled with an upgraded intake grate?

Your SLX already has the upgraded intake grate. The SLX is a pretty modified 780 right from the factory.

You MAY see a little gain in top end from the impeller. Now if you beef up the engine alittle, you can go to a steeper pitched impeller to gain more top end.

The question is, how much do you want to spend, and how fast do you want to go??

Normally it's cheaper to just buy a ski with a bigger engine.

What kind of RPM are you getting at WOT?

What is the max speed you have seen on the MFD?

There are a couple mods you can do to gain a little more speed, but if you want to gain another 5 MPH or more, Forget about it, unless you want to spend almost $1k
