Personally I use west system. Your going to need to use an epoxy resin to repair smc. Its not going to be fun or pretty!
First remove damaged crap and grind/sand it to clean material.
use some glass mat and your epoxy resin of choice to make major repair
Make a filler material after you sand the repair down and fill it to look good...
skim it.... sand it.... prime it and paint it.... Sounds a bit easier and faster than it is but you can do it!

The key to a good repair is grinding away ALL the damage - stress cracks, holes - grind at a 45-degree angle. With cracks grind away a V channel. Cut pieces of fiberglass matting to fit. Use rubber gloves as much as possible. Keep some mineral spirits like Xylol on hand for clean up and handcleaner like Goop. It's gonna be a messy job regardless how hard you try to be dainty. Beer makes it tolerable. Here's a link to a previous post of mine and pics of the end result. I had a good size hole in mine and spider cracks too.
