    2003 gp1300r wot rpm?

I've got a 2003 GP1300R with the cat removed the nozzle was replaced with a smaller one i believe to improve handling a different intake grate and the D plate in the exhaust and last the impeller was done... I was told when i bought it used that all of the mods were done at the dealer before the original owner picked the ski up... I just read a thread on impeller pitches and think i may have the wrong impeller. What i have is a Solas YF-CD 14/20 and on the box it says the pitch is 11/18... I've been turning 8000 RPMS since i bought it and i'm wondering if i have an impeller that is pitched too low and i'm revving the motor too high and maybe thats why i blew it up? Can anyone help me with this? Thanks in advance

WOW....8000 do you have an aftermarket Tach the ecu has a rpm limiter that should not let you rev that high you cant count on the gauge it might be wrong if it blew up maybe your 7 year old oil line fell off the fuel injection rail. The impeller needs to be checked to see what you really have as the pitch is off from solas when they are new.

I'm pretty sure the tach is the factory original and i'm not sure how accurate it is. I'm just wondering if the guy i bought the ski from maybe started with a solas 14/20 and had the impeller moded to an 11/18. Could they modify an impeller that far? Also if they did happen to modify it to an 11/18 then the tach would probably be right and I am over revving that motor. Right?

A 12/18 works good on a 1200 a 13/19 works good for a 1300 like yours the 14/20 is too big for a stock ski, yes the impeller can be pitched to a 11/18 and no it would not make you rev to 8000 i told you there is a rev limit and i think it is around 7400 a ski like yours with a 11/18 would probably turn the rpms around 7300 and if you want to know the true rpms get a tach hooked up or else your just guessing

Could they have messed with the ECM to take the rev limiter out? Also i could find a boat tach around some where but can you tell me how i'd hook it up to see what it's actually turning? or where i can take my tach to have it checked for accuracy?

I doubt it has been messed with here is the least expensive tach you can buy http://www.tinytach.com/tinytach/gasoline.php# I bought the commercial version on the next page as it holds the highest rpm and the regular one does not

Thanks for your help I'm gonna rebuild the motor then put an after market tach on it to find what it's actually turning and do I need any extra wire for either of these tachs? You wouldn't happen to know anyone that has a good crank for the 1300? or a good place to get one?

Yep,your mistaken on the rpms, the rev limit 7400, its hard to see the stock bar gauge accurately
