Rubber Dampers on shaft for SLs

    Hey all:
Thanks for all the previous info. I have been having a blast on my 1994 650 sl. I had a few problems, but nothing that wasn't mentioned here. The only thing I can't figure out is why my high jets are so far out. They are around three turns out, I mix my oil and am at 3300 ft elv. I tried to do the factory settings around 7/8 up to 1 1/2 but my plugs were very white. Short story I ended at 3 turns out. I run at about 2/3rds throttle for about 40 seconds and pull the kill switch while at that throttle. Any comments? The thing I am wondering about it the rubber dampers on my 1993 750 SL. Unfortunatly the impeller was bent and wore out, its fixed now but my rubber dampers are gone. I ordered a rebuild kit from Watercraft super store (not a very pleasant experience, lady wasn't very nice). But the kit does not have the rubber dampers... I ordered them from Polaris but hate to wait, can I make some or use something else? Does anyone have any dimensions for them?

GO TO THE HARDWARE STORE AND BUY SOME FAUCET WASHERS THAT ARE ABOUT 1/4" THINK.tHEY WILL WORK FIND. They just fall out when you remove the prop because they don't have a nipple. I have put a dab of silicone to hold them in place.

Start researching about piston wash. I think you need to see what yours looks like if you have the carbs that far out of adjustment.

You have serious potential to do piston damage if you aren't giving the cyls the correct amount of fuel.

And your 2/3 throttle plug chop isn't an accurate test. It must be WOT, because your high speed screws don't even come into play until 3/4 throttle.

Take a look through the tech section for piston wash, and how to tune a carb. Then start reading.....

At the Ace hardware store by me,I checked yesterday and they carry the same bumper that polaris sales. Called a chevy bumper in their Servalite box selection. About a buck and a half each.
