Thread: Coolant Leak

I am having a loss of coolant thru the breather hose on the coolant tank. When i rev it up it starts spraying it thru the hose. What could be causing this to happen?

Bad cap or a blown head gasket....Take the cap off and reinstall see if that works.

Those are the only 2 things to check for?Nothing to do with the thermostat by chance?

I agree with Sleepless. I don't think even if the thermostat stuck it would cause the leak you're talking about UNLESS you were overheating.

How hard is it to change this gasket and would this be causing some drop on performance?

Mine is doing the same thing currently. How is your compression? My coolant bottle was slightly warped, and the cap wouldn't seal properly. Also I was low on compression and the valves aren't sealing properly. So time for a valve job, new head gasket, & coolant bottle for me.

The head gasket is not that hard to do, you will need a few special tools, and a shop manual, new head bolts,& gasket. While the head is off is a good time to upgrade to the RR oil pressure jet, and lighten the valvetrain,(if u haven't already)

It really depends on who is doing the job for you. There are a few things that MUST be correct. Camshaft timing is NUMBER ONE!! I can not stress that enough because if this is not correct you WILL cause massive problems.
If you plan on doing this yourself I would HIGHLY recommend that you purchase the service manual. You also will need several specialized tools, new factory head gasket, head bolts and rocker bolts.
Depending on how bad the gasket leak is you might not notice any performance difference but the leaks never get smaller or fix themselves. Eventually it will get worse so it would be best to fix it ASAP.

Well the head was off abot 10 hrs ago due to a broken timing chain and the gasket was good.I also had to change 6 valves that got bent due to the belt. Now if the gasket was bad wouldnt i have milky oil?And im getting the same speeds so if the compressions were dropping wouldnt i see slower speeds?
