How common is it for a timing chain to break

I am rebuilding my motor and was wondering if it is normal procedure to replace the timing. Or if it is a lifetime chain.

    Thanks
    Josh

Since you already have everything apart... you'd be an idiot to not replace it! There has also been an update done to the tensioner (not sure what year yours is?), you may consider replacing that also.

Not sure exactly why it was updated, but the entire tensioner assembly was changed on the 08+ 4-tecs.

Mine snapped at 85 hours on an 06 RXT. I heard they updated the chain in late 06 or 07. I still don't know why the chain snapped, but it was 85 hard hours offshore and racing.
