    1998 zxi 1100 crank question

    I have the top end off my ski for a rebuild. Should the crank just spin freely or should there be any resistance since it's still connected to the rest of the "drivetrain/pump"?

    It should turn 'smoothly', no rough spots or binding. It's a little hard to do with the rods moving around, but turn it back & forth at all positions of rotation and feel for smoothness. You might also unbolt the engine and slide it forward to disengage the coupling and try it.

    I slid the motor forward and that was a great suggestion. It moves as smoothly as any other rotating mass I've ever seen.
    Now my question is, how difficult should it be to turn the pump side of the coupling?

    The pump should turn easily.

    UH OH!
    I can't turn the pump side of the coupler by hand. There is a hole in the shaft so I tried moving it with a screwdriver and it was bending the screw driver.
    I'm guessing it's either that plate that has the bearing going through it or the pump.
    Where do you suggest I go from here?

    Ok, so it's the pump. How do I take apart the pump? Right now I'm to the point where I can't take the impeller off.
