So my 15F that has 38 hours on it, dropped a valve. Here are the pictures.

When I purchased the ski, the owner said he had the valve stem seals changed at a Powersports Dealer because he had a low rpm , idle sputter. Well I have put three hours on the ski since I bought it, and this is what I have now. The shop that has my ski now said the retainers were not installed correctly, one of them popped out causing the valve to drop....and well, you know how the rest goes.....He also said it looks like he didnt reuse all the factory bolts , and some of them were very loose....Here are the pictures.

Here is the one with the off colored bolts.

    #4 cylinder wiped out.

Notice the valve jammed in there nice and sideways......ouch

    Here is the Piston

There are i think 2 silver bolts and he rest are black , but they have a special spot for the silver ones ,That really sucks, are you going to take it back to the other shop and try to get them to fix it?

The guy I bought it from (2 weeks ago), said he is going to mail me the receipt he has from the shop that did the work. I will probably go over there and talk to the owner / manager , but I am sure I am wasting my breath.

Can't think of ANY reason why such a low-time engine would need valve seals........something is VERY goofy here. Either a mis-diagnosis of the original problem or an over-sold service?? Not sure, but there is much more to this story......

Just a bit sickening to see so much damage to such a low-time engine.

Probably a bit of both, the damn thing probably just needed a fresh set of plugs, and they over sold the valve seal job. I want to say they hit him for $1500 bucks to do it. ( I will know exactly when I get the receipt ) , but then they go ahead and botch the job on top of it. I dont deal with the shop that did the work at all, because I have heard nightmares about them. But now I am stuck holding the bag.

I'd be very interested to hear what it was, specifically, that made them think the valve seals needed changing, never mind the fact that they don't know how to install keepers.

Way too many confident, yet incompetent people doing engine work, )or other work) in this world!!

I think you have a pretty solid case for them to cover a re-build, but get the info and see where it leads.

I doubt it needed plugs, but that may have been the case, too. It almost certainly didn't need valve seals!!
