    Rebuild Thread... my first ski! ;)

    Hey Guys,

    I've been working on this little project for a month now and never had time to start a new thread for it... I got this ski with the trailer for a total of 500$ when I moved in the new house! It's a 96 SP with a 587 engine...

    I know some people would call me crazy putting all that time in rebuilding a little 587 ski but I am 21 and studying in aeronautical mechanics and can't afford the 9000$ that a brand new ski cost over here in Canada!

    If i find a 720 I would be more then happy to drop it in but can't seem to find one!

    Anyway, let me know what you think of my work!

    Here's a little progress list I got done....

    ---> Work Status

    -Build Sea Doo Stand Rack -> DONE
    -Remove Engine -> DONE
    -Remove fuel and oil tank -> DONE
    -Remove accesory -> DONE
    -Remove jet pump and driveshaft-> ALMOST DONE
    -Strip all stickers -> DONE
    -Remove Sponsons -> DONE
    -Remove rub rails and bumper -> DONE
    -Clean body -> DONE
    -Clean inside hull -> SLOWLY STARTED
    -Clean and inspect hull -> DONE
    -Compound and wax -> DONE
    -Install R&D aluminum intake grate
    -Sand and prepare top for custom paint job --> STARTED
    -Custom top paint job
    -Repair seat and redo upholstery --> DONE
    -Paint hood
    -Rebuild carburetor
    -Remove oil pump and install block off kit
    -Inspect/rebuild engine --> STARTED!
    -Repaint engine and exhaust --> STARTED!
    -Rebuild jet pump assembly with new Solas prop and new wear ring
    -Install Hydro turf mats
    -New fuel selector, gas cap and rub rails in black! (Any idea where I could find those!?)
    -And more to be added........

    And now...pics!

    When I got it... Pretty bad condition!

    Built a sea doo stand and started stripping it...

    Engine removing... need some clean up in there!

    Rotax 587

    Started cleaning the inside... not done yet!

    The damn jet pump that doesn't wanna come off!!!

    Box full of parts! ;p

    Washed the hull... it's not in bad shape! That's the only scratch on it!

    My new toy! Porter Cable 7424XP

    Started compound and polish on hull!

    Done buffing and polishing! Pretty Shiny!

    New parts coming in!

    Started sanding the top!

    Where it sleeps at night!

    Started painting engine parts!

    Thanks for looking!

    looking good! there is another rebuild thread on here similar to yours. http://www.greenhulk.net/forums/show...-back-together there is a 720 in the classifieds that someone is trying to part with.

    ...you can add to your list of goodies...
    hydroturf mats
    96XP air vents, fuel selector switch, gas cap and rails (black)
    aftermarket sponsons (i have a pair cheap f/s)
    paint the hood to match trim and seat
    UMI steering (if you can find it)
    Mulitgauge in the hood(if you go to a 720 with the electronics)

    Thanks!

    I already had the hydroturf mats, gas cap and rails on my list... Just forgot to add it on the thread! ;p
    For the gas cap, fuel selector and rub rails... do you have any idea where I could find those in black!?
    The hood and seat are already in my plans, in fact the seat as been started to be repaired and a new black vinyl will go on it!

    What are the aftermarket sponsons you got for sale and how much you want for it? Does it fit in the original holes?

    I also need to find a KVPI/UMI Finger throttle because I have a brand new Pro Taper Steering for the sea doo!

    check my FS add. http://www.greenhulk.net/forums/showthread.php?115648-96-XP-787-parts-for-sale they are non adjustable. but better than stock. $50 + ship Yes it should fit the original holes. Im pretty sure that the 96SP was an X-4 hull.

    Little update!

    Just bought AirborneXP sponsons and I have some parts on order that I am waiting to receive also...
    As for the ski, i started buffing the other side of the hull and still sanding the top to prepare for paint...
    Got time to paint another engine part!

    I do have some question to be able to continue my work;

    1. What are the size of the water cooling hoses? Both the main feed and the indicator strainers?

    2. Where can I put a fitting to plug a garden hose to run the engine?

    3. What are the size of the big oil lines running from the bottom of the tank and what can I buy to replace those?

    4. Where could I find the fuel selector and gas cap in black!?

    Thanks

    Thanks!

    Some updates today!

    Seat is now repaired and installed some brand new Marine Ultratak black vynil!

    Also received airbornexp sponsons and tried them on!

    Oh and I also bought myself a toolbox for the new upcoming garage at my place! Started customizing it also! ;p

    Still have those questions if anyone can help!?? :S

    1. What are the size of the water cooling hoses? Both the main feed and the indicator strainers?

    2. Where can I put a fitting to plug a garden hose to run the engine?

    3. What are the size of the big oil lines running from the bottom of the tank and what can I buy to replace those?

    I think that they are 1/2 automotive heater hose for the cooling hose...im not sure what your asking about after that

    2. Where can I put a fitting to plug a garden hose to run the engine?
    that fitting for the hose goes in the middle of the water out line

    3. What are the size of the big oil lines running from the bottom of the tank and what can I buy to replace those?
    I believe that they are 1/4ida. fuel line hose will work just fine

    4. Where could I find the fuel selector and gas cap in black!?
    96XP has the parts you are looking for in black...you will also want the black air vents also

    Thanks

    1. Perfect I will look into automotive cooling hoses! The other question was about the pissers hose; you know the one that connects on the exhaust and the engine top head to indicate water flow...

    2. The water out is the one that goes out of the engine head that goes all the way back to the exhaust connection? When a hose is connected, do I have to pinch one side of that hose so that water only goes in the engine and not out the back?

    3. Will look into that... Thanks!

    4. Just found them on ebay today all from the same seller... also got the air vents! ;p

    5. On my pic, are the sponsons installed on the right side?

    Thanks

    you can use anything that fits. id use 1/8ida line. I think that will fit. it doesnt have to be like your intake lines that have pressure on them but still want it to be strong

    2. The water out is the one that goes out of the engine head that goes all the way back to the exhaust connection? When a hose is connected, do I have to pinch one side of that hose so that water only goes in the engine and not out the back?

    the water out line is the one that goes from the back of the head to the top of the transom...you can follow it back to verify. the water in line comes from the pump next to the bilge lines. you need to pinch the side that exits the ski

    3. Will look into that... Thanks!

    yep you got them right...make sure to get some big fender washers for the inside to keep them from ripping off
    Thanks
