The stock IC core won't clog from silt. The water passages are real big, which will allow silt, sand & small debris to pass right through & out the pisser. Mostly, you just want to flush the salt out of it. I run mine on the trailer for a few minutes in a freshwater lake by my house on the way home from the ocean. You could also install a ball valve between the thru-hull & 4-way tee, so when you flush it on the hose you can turn off the valve, which will block water flow to the pump & allow enough pressure to push water through the IC.

with my setup the ic waterflow is isolated from the flush fitting.
you could reverse flow thru the pisser with a garden hose if you have a seperate water flow for the i.c.
