    Carnage!

Took apart my Octane thru-hull bearing... Wow, what a mess.

As you can see, I'm missing several of the ball bearings. Anybody got a source? I'm wondering if they sell them by the dozen?

Randy might know the sizes, or Jay.

If they are standard bearing and seal sizes, post here when you find out what they are.

Ok, well, I was just clowning around, implying that I wanted to buy a few of the balls, when obviously the whole assembly was shot.

I had a hard time getting the outer race out of the Bearing Housing. Well, this is a $400 part, so I wasn't giving up easily. I finally got the race out by using a die grinder to cut thru the steel, and stopping just as I hit the aluminum.

The sum total of rebuild parts for this was $42, and that included 2 dowel pins that I can't even find a place for in there! Pretty reasonable, I thought.

The bearing itself, Polaris # 1514309, was an NTN 6205 LB, a double sealed NTN bearing. Cost thru Babbitts was $15. I found it locally, but not much cheaper, so I went with Babbitts.

I'm sorry Randy, I didn't think to check with you!

    Hi Randy,

what's the deal with those dowel pins? They list them on the parts list, but nobody seems to know where they go? Guys on the X were saying the same thing.

Does the Octane bearing rebuild kit also work for the MSX bearing carrier?
