    Angry Engine runs strong in driveway on hose, but not at river...

    I replaced the TPS yesterday and cranked the ski up in the driveway while on hose, NOW the engine revs up fine.. I took it to the river today and dropped the ski in and now it has no power, I could rev it up to 4k rpm and it would surge and I was able to get up to speed one time, not sure what speed because now the speedometer doesn't work!!

    I have checked compression all three at 130psi, Plugs are fouled black and yes they are the right plugs..

    I have searched the forums and couldn't find the answer I was looking for..

    So what now?

    What model and year PWC are we talking about?

    TPS = fuel injected engine - correct?

    What diagnostics have you done?

    When did it last work properly for you?

    Red lamp flashing or Check Engine message on display?
    Reverse message on display?

    2000 Genesis FFI

    TPS = yes

    Diagnostics = Check fuel pressure, replaced spark plugs, checked spark, checked compression

    It ran perfectly end of last season with the new engine, I was doing breakin and then it stalled and engine would run but had no throttle, Took it back to the shop who replaced the motor and they said the key on flywheel sheared off and so they replaced the key and flywheel. This season I couldn't get it to start so I took flywheel off and noticed they damaged the stator, so i replaced that and it fired right up but still had throttle problem, so replaced the TPS and now have the power problem..

    When I first checked the EMM using your method with the jumpers and led, I got code 12 which is TPS malfuction, I replaced the TPS and the throttle problem was fixed, but now has no power, It idols fine but does move past idol speeds, If I pump the throttle it will get upto 4k RPMS and start to try to get upto speed but then bogs down again..

    thanks in advance

    Did it run properly after the shop re-installed the flywheel?

    Did they install a NEW flywheel?

    You have;
    Newly rebuilt motor, partially broken in
    New stator
    Re-installed flywheel
    New TPS

    Throttle response is poor, but engine starts and idles fine.

    Are you sure the new TPS is undamaged?
    Are the contacts in the TPS connector clean and tightly mating?
    There should be zero dielectric grease in the TPS connector.

    Check fuel pressure at the schrader valve tee.

    When I picked up the jetski after they installed the new flywheel, the battery was dead and couldn't start it. Being there was still snow on the ground and they winterized it for me I didn't want them to start it. First time I cranked it up it had the same throttle issue as before I put it in the shop. I called the shop and the number was no longer valid. I finally was able to get ahold of the owner and he said he went out of business and can no longer provide service. I pulled the flywheel and yes it was new and undamaged but I noticed the stator was damaged. I replaced the stator and tried to fire it up and had same throttle issue. The TPS is brand new and purchased from a reputable company found on this forum. After install of the new TPS I cleared the codes and rechecked and received code 11. The fuel pressure was checked as well and checked out ok. The connected for the TPS looks fine... Only thing I can see left to do is ship my EMM off for diagnostics...

    by "zero" dielectric grease you mean "none" correct?... If that is the case then yes there is grease in the connector...

    Clean the TPS contacts out with some electrical contact cleaner. Use the no-residue type. You might get lucky...

    Otherwise, it may well be time to send that EMM out for repair.
