from what i have read this is the best way to tune but do you just pop the heads off every time to check? and do you have to replace the gasket every time?

You can check through the spark plug hole but you can see better with the heads off. Your 900 has O-rings so you don't need to replace them unless they get damaged.

go to ace hardware and get a micro flash light with flex shaft. remove plugs look down in cylinder with flash light. no need to pull heads
