    Question Before buying an FZ-

Hey Guys, so after much thought and sentimental farewell i sold my 01 1200xlt.
Now im in the market for an FZr/s and as i read the posts here, i get a little nervous. Trouble with hull cracking, shifted transom(s) makes me get cautious before shelling out $12K with taxes and a trailer in NY.

Can you post some suggestions for a "check list" of things to inspect prior to buying? What to look for, what norms should be? I know im probably asking for a lot but dang, hate to get stuck with cracked hull and Yamaha give me a run around.

    Hope all is well.

I just bought a 2010 FZS and cannot honestly tell you what to look for. I started reading this site after I brought it home and started to have the same concerns as you. After a few rides, I'm not nearly as concerned about the integrity as I was, but I'll keep an eye on it.

I would absolutely do it again... I really love the ski.

    I raced with a friend this weekend. I have a 09' FZs and he has a 09' RXT-X.
We both have stage 1 equivalent mods.
Early in the morning, flat water, air temp around 20°C, water about 15°C: same holeshot (suprisingly!), but on top speed, he has about a 1/1.5 mph advantage (my guess is once I'll have another SC wheel installed rather than my current stock wheel, we'll have the same top speed).

Then later in the morning, we tested both skis in chop: we started side by side and I quickly took advantage and was ahead.
Then I let him go first: I reached him quickly, we stayed side by side for say 10 seconds, and then he couldn't keep up and I was ahead, way ahead after 2 minutes
So in my opinion, the FZS/R definitely better for offshore

what kind area of new york? like what are the water conditions? how many people do you ride with? if you ride in rougher water i highly recommend an fx sho, its much better in chop than a fz.
