    Need Help with SLT780 Carbs

    Guys,

I have a 1997 SLT 780 that I bought as a rebuild project. I am having difficulty rebuilding the carbs mainly because I can't figure out which cars it has. SBT has some great directions for rebuilding Mikuni carbs but after I started I realized that those directions are not for the carbs on my 780, they are for SBNs or something like that. Anyway, anyone know what the model of the carbs is on a 1997 SLT 780 or have links to the rebuild instructions? I have rebuilt the carbs based on the parts in the kit but I need to know things like the factory settings for the mixture screws etc.

Thanks in advance for the help.

    Todd

I think the carbs on your 1997 SLT 780 are Mikuni SuperBN (SBN).

What carb rebuild kits did you use?
Genuine Mikuni, SBT, or something else?

I think the kit was by Jetlyne. I know it's not the best but it's too late now! If needed, I will rebuild them again next summer with a genuine Mikuni kit. Having said that....my carbs don't seem to match the instructions on the SBNs?????

1997 SLT 780 uses Mikuni Super BN 38mm carbs (square cover)

Make sure you didn't get Mikuni BN carb kits. (round cover)

I used the Mikuni kit on my 96 SLT. I think the carbs are the same but settings are different. Mikuni kit is only about $12.00 more. I still don't know why the high speed screws are different between the 96 and 97 even though we had as entire thread on it about a month ago. That seems to be the only difference though. We followed the instructions and diagrams in the Clymer Manual and everything went well.

If you can get your hands on a Clymer Manual it will help you out where you are having a problem unless the parts in your rebuild kit just don't match up.
